Cara Purita

Picnic at the Lake, 34 x 30″ oil on canvas, sold

This painting is an example of one that I had been contemplating in my mind for a very long time before I was able to get the reference photograph taken. It is more metaphorical than and example of an actual woman’s daily life. I purposefully left out details so that the viewer could insert their own interpretation– is this woman eating a whole cherry pie herself or is she cutting it up to serve to others? Are there children nearby, or is she alone? I had been thinking about this composition (and many, many others that are still stuck in my head or works in progress) for nearly a year. Intimidated by the scale, I only attempted it after listening to a talk given by one of the artists whose work influences me most, Wayne Thiebaud.
